Overlooking the picturesque Walker Bay, you will find the most sought after holiday destination situated only  40 km from Hermanus and only 145 kilometres from Cape Town International Airport. Experience unparalleled whale watching  without the hustle and bustle of Hermanus. Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of listening to the sounds of whales in the comfort of your bed instead of listening to the sound of traffic.

The Oystercatcher is the ideal place from which to explore the Western Cape. It is situated 180km from Cape Town, 40km from Hermanus, 20 km from Standford and 5km from Gansbaai Town where fresh line fish is always available at the active harbour. The Winelands are just over an hour's drive away, as are the quaint towns of Baardskeerdersbos, Napier and the southern most tip of Africa at Cape Augulhas.

The Oyster Catcher is self catering beach house is perched on the magnificent cliffs of De Kelders in the shark diving and whale watching hub of Gansbaai. De Kelders is renowned for some of the best land based whale watching in the world during August to November. The whales come so close to the cliff edge that you will hear them breathing inside the house.

The house itself is located in the second row from beachfront and within a short walking distance of a pristine nature/marine reserve with white sandy beaches and large open caves of archaeological interest. Breathtaking, unobstructed views of the ocean and mountains less than one minute's walk away (see picture below). On a clear day, you can even see the whales breach from the comfort of the stoep.

The spacious house sleeps 6 people. There are three bedrooms, each with crisp white linen (100% cotton percale linen are provided). Two of the rooms have queen size beds. The third room has two single beds. There are two bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a bath. We installed gas in the bathroom and shower to ensure that everyone can enjoy a hot bath or shower and renovated the house in Nov 2013

A built in braai on the patio, large colour TV with full DStv, cosy fireplace, and double lock-up garages further ensures a comfortable stay. The kitchen is fully equipped with microwave, conventional oven, fridge/freezer and all other utensils.

There is also a games room with table tennis. Bats and balls provided. We recently had a dartboard installed in the entertainment area, as well as wall-mounted heaters in the second and third bedrooms - this should make those cold, rainy days/nights easier to deal with

Gansbaai town has an OK Bazaars and a  SPAR-  both well stocked - for your day-to-day grocery requirements. There are various restaurants but enquire about their operating hours to avoid disappointment - they do not all stay open till late, nor are they open everyday. Coffee On The Rocks offers a spectacular view of Walker Bay and The Fish Lady sells stunning seafood
